App 33/60: Book Collection

Simitless helps bookworms catalog their collection

Literature is your innermost passion. Books are as much part of your life as air and water. You even introduce yourself as a collector of fine works of literature, a gatherer of knowledge in its tangible, i.e. paper format, a devotee of bookbound reflection. By now, you have amassed quite a book collection – a small library for some, a large media library for others. You are a creator in your own name, your creation, your work – organizing the thoughts of others. But how do you organize your collection in such a way that finding the book you need here and now does not become a quest of its own? Is it possible to share your passion, your collection, without needing to physically push out the walls of your home?

Well, you are in luck, as we, at Simitless, can assist you with answering these questions. Yes, it is possible to share your passion and collection with the world, without making any physical alterations to your house. How? With a simple, yet powerful, Simitless application model, created for the exact purpose of organizing book collections of all shapes and sizes. Consult the application model, then click the " Use this model" button to create your own copy of the app. To save your progress, think of creating an account by following the instructions on the green buttons! As soon as you are ready and willing to share your collection, you can either invite all your friends to join the application by creating a Simitless account. ( Edit app Access rights) or changing the settings of your app from “Private” to “Open”. Once you decide on opening up your up, you still have one more choice to make: you can choose to either protect the access to your app with a passphrase, or not. ( Edit app Options Open access settings Open Application)

With the help of this application, you can create a small database to catalog, organize, and categorize your books. Each record, created by clicking the button, offers you a text field to input a title and another one for the author. Additionally, you can scan the book’s ISBN and add a publication date. Finally, we suggest that you add a short description of the work in question to make it easier to find later on. Keep in mind that you can add as much information as you want at any time. For example, play around with adding such fields as categories, classification labels, color code of the book cover, etc. In a word, the world is your oyster.

Et, voilà! With a few clicks, you have a small but powerful app that keeps you up-to-date with which books you have on hand at all times.

By the way, if you ever do decide to lend out your books, why not add user accounts to manage, organize and track the whole lending process as well? We'll also be exploring this possibility in a future app model: App 42/60: Small Library Manager
